Boro secure win after the break

Middlesbrough eased into fourth place in the table following second-half goals from Seb Hines and substitute Bart Ogbeche against Barnsley at the Riverside.

Hines opened the scoring on the hour with a header from Barry Robson's corner before Ogbeche added a second in added time.

Home goalkeeper Jason Steele was earlier required to deal with a low shot from Andy Gray and Craig Davies also shot wide for the visitors. Latest signing Adam Hammill struck narrowly over in reply against his former club.

Barnsley keeper Luke Steele then blocked from Marvin Emnes and Robson also drove wide before the hosts made a double-change at the interval, although it was their opponents soon calling for a penalty after a challenge on the edge of the area from Matthew Bates.

But Hines headed in after being left unmarked from a 60th minute corner delivered by Robson, who later dipped a 23-yard effort over while Davies saw a reply blocked at the opposite end.

Boro keeper Steele was forced to grab a Jim McNulty header on the line just before the end and then saw a mistake from his namesake in the other goal allow Ogbeche to finally wrap up proceedings with a chip from outside the area in added time.
