Boro keep home run going

Middlesbrough made it three wins out of three at the Riverside as Luke Williams and substitute Mustapha Carayol were both on target in a 2-0 victory against Ipswich Town.

The recalled Williams hit the first eleven minutes before the break but the outcome was still in doubt until summer arrival Carayol added a second in added time.

Boro earlier handed a debut to new signing Andre Bikey in central defence while Kevin Thomson and Williams both earned their first starts of the season. Marvin Emnes was unavailable due to a family illness but Lukas Jutkiewicz was back amongst the substitutes.

However, it was Ishmael Miller soon having a low shot blocked by goalkeeper Scott Loach after being released by Josh McEachran while opposite number Jason Steele turned over from Lee Martin.

The England Under-21 international also did well to keep out a header from Guirane N'Daw before Williams collected from Thomson and drilled in from the edge of the area to open the scoring.

Recent Boro target Paul Taylor was wide with an effort across goal but it was Adam Reach's shot next causing problems for Loach early in the second-half.

Boro were forced to introduce Jutkiewicz after Miller limped out of the action and the substitute was twice wide before Michael Chopra threatened on a couple of occasions for the visitors.

However, Taylor was looking their main source of danger with a couple more attempts until Carayol collected Steele's clearance near halfway and surged towards the area before beating Loach with a firm drive in added time.
