Late double stuns Boro

Middlesbrough were denied a second successive victory after conceding twice inside the last five minutes at Huddersfield Town.

Boro had surged in front with thirteen minutes remaining when latest signing Sammy Ameobi crossed for Scott McDonald to claim his twelfth goal of the season.

But home substitutes Alan Lee and Danny Ward both struck in the last few minutes to completely turn the contest around.

The visitors made only one change to their weekend starting line-up with Richard Smallwood coming into the side for Kieron Dyer.

Lee Novak and Adam Clayton both struck wide for the hosts during the early exchanges, with McDonald doing similar in reply.

Neil Danns also had a volley diverted over while Boro keeper Jason Steele resisted a free-kick following Nicky Bailey being penalised. Clayton then knocked narrowly wide ahead of the interval.

Huddersfield were showing plenty of spirit as one would expect following a recent managerial change, although George Friend drilled over from the edge of the box as the visitors began making changes with the contest approaching its final third.

The foggy conditions weren't exactly helping the spectacle and that produced a delayed reaction from the Boro fans at the other end of the stadium when McDonald got on the end of on loan Ameobi's 77th minute delivery to open the scoring.

But when keeper Steele appeared to allow a header to slip through his grasp following a corner, it was left to substitute Lee to stab in an equaliser with just four minutes remaining.

Fellow replacement Ward then fired the winner from the edge of the area after Boro substitute Emmanuel Ledesma had lost possession during added time.
