Middlesbrough were only just denied victory at the champions following a late injury-time equaliser by Leicester City.

Alvaro Negredo earned them an early lead with his first goal in a dozen games but Riyad Mahrez replied from the spot after on loan defender Calum Chambers was ruled to have handled.

However, Negredo's second of the contest with nineteen minutes remaining suddenly threatened a third league win of the season, until substitute Islam Slimani converted a late second penalty after Marten de Roon fouled Wes Morgan.

Boro were unchanged from their narrow defeat to Chelsea, with de Roon soon dragging wide from the edge of the area and Adama Traore calling Ron-Robert Zieler into action before Negredo exchanged passes with Gaston Ramirez and opened the scoring.

Shinji Okazaki struck the crossbar in reply from a cross by Mahrez, who soon equalised from the penalty spot after Chambers was adjudged to have handled inside the area.

Both Okazaki and substitute Ahmed Musa saw efforts for the hosts following the break, but it was Negredo taking advantage of Adam Forshaw's through pass and restoring the lead on 79 minutes.

That was cancelled out deep into added time, though, when Morgan was tripped by de Roon and Slimani required no second invitation when converting the penalty.
