Middlesbrough slumped to a 3-1 home defeat to West Ham United after striker Andy Carroll was twice on target at the Riverside.
Marksman Carroll headed in an early Manuel Lanzini corner but Cristhian Stuani then converted a Calum Chambers cross.
However, Carroll struck again before the interval when Victor Valdes could only block Michail Antonio's low drive, and substitute Jonathan Calleri added a late third on the break.
The visitors opened strongly and Lanzini's ninth-minute delivery from the left was met by a thumping close-range header from Carroll .
Boro were back in it ahead of the half-hour mark though, with Adam Clayton and Adama Traore allowing Chambers to cross perfectly for Stuani to finish across Darren Randolph.
But West Ham were once again in front at the interval as Carroll added his second when Valdes failed to deal with Antonio's effort.
That could have been increased early in the second-half with both Antonio and Lanzini having further opportunities; although Randolph produced a decent stop at the other end after Marten de Roon headed a Stuani cross.
An attempted Aaron Cresswell clearance was then diverted onto the crossbar before the hosts brought on latest signing Patrick Bamford following his midweek return from Chelsea.
Another substitute, Rudy Gestede, soon volleyed wide from an Alvaro Negredo knock-down, until visiting replacement Calleri finally wrapped it up with a deflected finish.
