Middlesbrough's winless streak continued with a 0-0 draw against Burnley at the Riverside.
That leaves them six points behind the current safety-line with still games against Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea to come.
Boro best moments arrived with substitute Alvaro Negredo's overhead fended away by Tom Heaton during the second-half, while Stewart Downing and Daniel Ayala both had late efforts cleared from the line.
Robbie Brady's free-kick already struck the woodwork for the visitors and team-mate George Boyd next couldn't find the required finish.
Meanwhile, Grant Leadbitter's reply was inadvertently deflected away by team-mate Rudy Gestede, whose header at least brought Heaton into action following the interval.
Brady was off-target for the visitors at the other end and Ben Mee's subsequent header forced a save from Boro keeper Victor Valdes.
Negredo's acrobatic overhead and an Adam Clayton effort offered renewed hope for home supporters before Downing's late free-kick and Ayala's header were both cleared off the line by Matthew Lowton.
