Middlesbrough 3 Hull City 1
Tue 20th Feb 7.45pm
Middlesbrough returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over struggling Hull City at the Riverside.
Striker Rudy Gestede netted either side of Patrick Bamford restoring the lead just before the interval - and soon after Evandro had equalised.
Boro earlier suffered a major blow during the warm-up when England defender Ben Gibson reported unwell and was replaced by Dael Fry.
However, they went close to an opening goal as Gestede headed Adama Traore's cross against the outside of an upright.
But when Bamford helped on a Ryan Shotton delivery on sixteen minutes, Gestede nodded beyond Allan McGregor to make the early breakthrough.
That was to be cancelled out during the closing minutes of the half after Evandro was allowed to sweep in through a crowded area.
The Teessiders still enjoyed an interval lead, though, Bamford expertly chipping the goalkeeper following a misplaced defensive pass.
The visitors could have levelled again when Will Keane dragged wide after keeper Darren Randolph had initially blocked from Fraizer Campbell.
And it was their opponents going further in front courtesy of Gestede back-heeling Traore's cross into the net as the hour-mark approached.
Randolph was later easily gathering from Kamil Grosicki before his opposite number McGregor denied Traore a fourth goal in added time.
