Boro Boss Eyes Belgium Starlet

The 20-year-old Belgium international plays for Standard Liege and is regarded as one of Europe's top youngsters.

He is the sort of player that the Middlesbrough team is missing.

The Standard Liege captain is very creative and can get forward and score goals, something that the current Boro team is missing.

Reports suggest that Defour will cost Boro around €8million and may be out of our reach if other high profile clubs become interested.

If we do manage to land Defour it would make for exciting times. With Digard and Emnes being brought in for the future, it looks promising.

What do we think - is this the type of player missing in our team?

Where did you get this info from? I've seen an article on which his agent has said all this, but not southgate.

It's been well documented that our scouts have been seen at Standard Liege games. Southgate hasn't said anything on the player.

As for is he the type of player we're missing in our team, i don't know, i've never heard of him before. we're certainly missing something in midfield. someone to take the place of o'neil, i personally think that guy is chit. before he came to boro he was ok, but since he has been here he's not impressed me one bit. hope he proves me wrong though and scores next game. Up The Boro!

Yeah I agree. Although O'Neill is a good industrious player, he can't find the net. If we are to progress as a team we need goals from our midfielder's. Go on youtube and have a look at Defour. He looks good on the ball.
TheSlaven
Anyone can look good on YouTube so that means nothing. He does not score regularly and is not an out and out attacking midfielder.

During the 2007-08 season Defour received the Golden Shoe, the official award for most valuable player in the Belgian League, it helped Standard to the Jupiler League title, for the first time in 25 years.

Agree with you marron, he is a creative player but has scored 9 goals in 121 games. Hardly the new Juninho.
peterfromredcar
At least he's scored a couple of goals. How many has O'Neil scored for Boro!? Actually can anyone remember if he's assisted any goals either?! That's why we need a creative playmaker.
TheSlaven
i think he will better than o'neil i feel o'neil is a 60 years old man when he run :D !

TheSlaven

tut tut, all you lot comlaining that Defour's not good enough for us, we'd take him now would'nt we, for the record though the lads an excellent player, we should have moved in for him whilst we had premier league status. He'll go to a top club soon.
